This March, Strathpine Safe Space (operated by Neami National and part of the Brisbane North Safe Space Network) and Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) joined together to offer a community Safe Space pop-up at Bunnings Lawton.

Safe Spaces are peer-led, non-clinical spaces providing compassionate support in community for people experiencing distress.

Situating themselves at Bunnings for this two-hour community event was a great way for support workers to connect with these members of the community who may be having difficulty in accessing services, and share supports, information and flyers in-person.

The initiative was a unique community engagement opportunity for Strathpine Safe Space Peer Lead Brooke Starr (Neami) and Brisbane North Safe Space Network Coordinator Nat Scott (WMQ) who, with Safe Space Strathpine team mate Ian, took the time to listen to the presenting challenges being faced by people who engaged on the day, and act as their direct link to a local Safe Space.

Visitors were also invited to paint leopard tree seeds, which will be used to create a community mandala to be featured at the Strathpine Safe Space.
