Medicare UCCs delivering increasing instances of care in our community
23 September 2024Brisbane North PHN was pleased to join Minister for Health and Aged Care the Hon. Mark Butler MP at his recent visit to Murrumba Downs Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC).
The visit last month was Minister Butler's second tour of Murrumba Downs Medicare UCC, following its official opening by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in January.
Since opening in October, Murrumba Downs Medicare UCC has seen over 7000 presentations for minor injuries and illnesses.
These include respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, UTIs and STIs, infections, fractures, sprains, cuts, abrasions and lacerations, burns, bites and rashes. Urgent care pathways like Medicare UCCs are not intended to replace routine care by a regular or family GP at a general practice, but can provide critical, medical attention within two to 12 hours for those who need it.
The clinics are staffed by nurses, GPs and urgent care physicians like Dr Ajit Bhalla, ForHealth Group Queensland Division's Deputy State Clinical Director and Clinical Head of Urgent Care (pictured with Minister Butler).
Medicare UCCs are a new model of care fulfilling a critical role in our healthcare system by providing timelier access to primary care for our communities, closer to home and at short notice.
ForHealth operate a second clinic – Northside Medicare UCC – at Kedron. The third in our region's network of Medicare UCC's was most recently opened at Morayfield.
