Minister announces Medicare Mental Health Centre locations
22 July 2024Four Medicare Mental Health Centres will be established in areas of need across the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay region.
The official announcement was made by Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention the Hon. Emma McBride MP at a visit to Stride Integrated Mental Health Hub at Caboolture with Brisbane North PHN CEO and colleagues last week.
Selected with endorsement from Metro North Health, the four locations – Caboolture, Redcliffe, Strathpine and Inner North Brisbane – will support communities with high socio-economic disadvantage, higher unemployment rates and high rates of homelessness.
Brisbane North PHN joined Assistant Minister McBride for the important announcement at Stride, where since 2019 the team have operated an integrated hub model of care combining clinical and non-clinical services in one location, and facilitating access to tailored packages of care for people with severe and complex mental illness.
Providers currently delivering the three Integrated Mental Health Hubs in Caboolture, Strathpine and Inner North Brisbane will apply to transition to Medicare Mental Health Centres via an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, while the provider for the Redcliffe site will be selected through a competitive open tender process following community and stakeholder co-design.
Service delivery for the four Medicare Mental Health Centres in the region will begin on 1 July 2025.
