Last month the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) hosted the SEQ First Nations Health Equity In Action Conference, attended by representatives from across Brisbane North PHN's Executive, Spirit of Reconciliation Working Group and program teams.

The event built on the success of the inaugural conference held in November 2022 and provided an opportunity to showcase the work happening across SEQ to transform the health system towards achieving health equity for First Nations people. This year’s conference focused on the progress made during the past 12 months in service delivery partnerships and new arrangements which bring services closer to First Nations people and communities.

Participants from Metro North, Metro South and Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services, Queensland PHNs and IUIH Network Member organisations were represented at the conference.

Executive Manager | Aged and Community Care System Improvement Sharon Sweeney (pictured) represented the PHN in a panel session Growing Strong: culturally responsive multidisciplinary paediatric services closer to home.

The panel discussion highlighted:

- flexibility in responding to IUIH's style of wraparound services
- flexibility in reporting tools and input in reporting outcomes to ensure cultural appropriateness, including successful advocacy to the Department to use culturally appropriate tools outside of what was required by them in a funding agreement
- collaboration and partnership.
