Refocus of Planning for Wellbeing for better community outcomes

Implementation of the current Planning for Wellbeing regional plan for mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and suicide prevention (MHAODSP) has been extended until 2025, in line with national and statewide strategic planning.

To ensure the plan continues to drive better community mental health and wellbeing outcomes, a “refocus” will be undertaken over the next six months in collaboration with Planning for Wellbeing partners and people with a lived experience.

This process follows a recent consultative process with partners – based on their feedback, governance processes and priority actions will now be reviewed and adjusted to ensure they are fit for purpose, and that implementation grounded in best practice regional planning as a method of system reform continues to be adopted.

An example of this work in practice includes the decision of some partnership groups to widen their membership to create networks instead, and forming working groups dedicated to the implementation of specific actions. Other partners are choosing to hone their scope and dedicate resources to targeted priority actions. These changes should mean that the right people are at the table and that resources are being used more effectively and efficiently to drive change.

Ultimately, the goal is always to drive better outcomes for people with a lived experience.

As part of the refocus, a suite of Planning for Wellbeing communications will be developed and rolled out, led by Mental Health Development Coordinator, Chelsea Muscat. A forum will be held in February 2024 to bring partners together to engage in further regional planning.

A visual snapshot and an accompanying series of videos will also be developed to capture key milestones and achievements highlighting the positive impact of the regional plan on real people.
