Strengthening dementia care through education and collaboration
17 September 2026Dementia is now the leading cause of death for women, and the second-leading cause of death for men, in our region.
As our population continues to age, dementia is becoming an increasingly significant health challenge. As the leading cause of death for women, and the second-leading cause of death for men in the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay region, dementia touches the lives of thousands of people. It affects not only those living with the condition, but also their families, carers, friends and communities.
This Dementia Action Week, we’re shining the spotlight on Brisbane North PHN’s continuing investment in education, collaboration and system improvement to better support people living with dementia and those who care for them.
Residential Aged Care Clinical Masterclass Series
This coming November, the PHN’s Residential Aged Care Clinical Masterclass Series will focus on the management of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, providing residential aged care workers with practical strategies to support residents experiencing distress, responsive behaviours and cognitive decline.

Ageing Well Vision 2041
Through our partnership with Metro North Health in the Health Alliance, the PHN contributes to the development of the Ageing Well Vision 2041. This long-term vision recognises the projected growth in dementia across Queensland and the significant impact it will have on individuals, communities, the health workforce, and support systems in the decades ahead.
Care finder Community of Practice
The PHN also provided education focused on dementia at the care finder Community of Practice, helping frontline workers strengthen their understanding of the condition and improve their ability to support older people navigating complex health and aged care systems.
Through initiatives such as these, Brisbane North PHN is working alongside partners across the region to build a more dementia-friendly future, ensuring people living with dementia can access the understanding, care, and support they need to live well.
