Towards building a more inclusive healthcare system in our region

Brisbane North PHN is pleased to share our finalised Equity and Access Framework, a pivotal step towards building a more inclusive and fair healthcare system across the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay region.

The embedding of this Framework into our core business reflects our PHN's strong commitment to ensuring that all individuals, groups and communities have a fair opportunity to achieve their best possible health and wellbeing without being disadvantaged by social, economic and environmental factors.

The Framework highlights key priority populations in our region who often face systemic barriers to healthcare, including (but not limited to): Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, multicultural communities, individuals who identify as LGBTIQA+, people living with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, people impacted by rurality, people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantages, and women experiencing gender-based violence.

Central to our approach are guiding principles that emphasise human rights, respect for diversity, co-production, recognising the wider determinants of health, and intersectionality.

The Framework identifies four organisational aims for our PHN:

1. Drive equity through our organisational strategy and be accountable to our community through governance arrangements.
2. Listen, understand and respond to the diverse needs of our community.
3. Embed access and equity in our commissioning processes.
4. We will be an organisation that is culturally capable, reflects the diversity of the communities we support and is connected to our partners in the local health system.

The Equity and Access Framework aligns with Brisbane North PHN's broader strategic vision of a community where good health is available to everyone. By addressing health disparities and promoting inclusive practices, the PHN aims to enhance health outcomes and experiences for all residents in the region.
