Medicare Mental Health Centres (MMHCs) provide a welcoming place to access free and confidential mental health information, services and supports.

Brisbane North PHN is pleased to announce four Medicare Mental Health Centres (MMHCs) will open across the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay region from July, offering residents free, walk-in mental health support and advice.

The centres will be staffed by teams of highly qualified mental health professionals and people with lived mental health experience. No Medicare card, appointment or GP referral is required to access the free services which will provide immediate, short and medium-term care to adults.

Integrated Mental Health Hubs commissioned by Brisbane North PHN in Caboolture, Strathpine and inner-north Brisbane will transition to the MMHC model, with a new service to be established in Redcliffe.

Selected with endorsement from Metro North Health, the four centres will support communities with high socio-economic disadvantage, higher unemployment rates and high rates of homelessness.

Key features of the MMHCs include:
  • no requirement for appointments, referrals, or prior diagnoses
  • no Medicare card needed to access service
  • access to peer workers with lived mental health experience
  • multidisciplinary teams of social workers and counsellors offering short and medium-term care.
