Bridging the gap in physical activity and diet support for breast cancer survivors: an NHMRC-funded randomised controlled trial in primary care (EMPOWER SMS-GP)

About the study

The EMPOWER-SMS-GP trial, led by Professor Julie Redfern, GP and Associate Professor Carolyn Ee, and Dr. Anna Singleton, is funded by the World Cancer Research Fund and NHMRC. This study aims to enhance support for breast cancer survivors within general practice settings.

Trial overview

Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of a six-month text message program in supporting breast cancer survivors to improve lifestyle behaviors. Follow-ups will be conducted at 6, 12, and 18 months.

Practice Involvement (Maximum 1 hour total):

  1. Identify eligible breast cancer patients within your practice. (Eligibility: Patients who have completed active treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy) within the last three years and have visited your practice at least once in the past two years.
  2. Send one or two invitation text messages to these patients.

All other aspects of coordination and monitoring will be managed by the University of Sydney study team.
