Collaborative continuous quality improvement (CQI) success for Brisbane North practices
18 September 2025In recent months 119 Brisbane North practices have undertaken two significant Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to great success.
The Multicultural Health CQI Initiative saw 65 practices complete 294 individual CQI activities all designed to improve the health outcomes of multicultural patients in our communities. This initiative was funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing Multicultural Access Plan.
During the initiative, ethnicity recording statistics for patients improved from 72.1 per cent in October 2024 to 73.9 per cent across the region. Key activities undertaken by practices were the completion of more than 280 cultural competency online courses, and the provision of health literacy resources in languages other than English. 54 practices took part in the Cancer Screening CQI Initiative funded by Queensland Health’s Cancer Screening Unit. This project had dual aims: to increase the number of practices linked to the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR), and to improve cervical and bowel screening rates across the region (especially in under-screened populations).
Practices undertook a wide range of activities including NCSR training and information sessions for staff, using Primary Sense to identify patients overdue for screening and information campaigns for patients about the importance of cancer screening. Access and read the final report.
