Connecting with our PHN community this Queensland Mental Health Week
24 October 2024Queensland Mental Health Week celebrates individual and community mental health and wellbeing. Regardless of whether we have a lived experience of mental illness or not, the initiative links in to World Mental Health Day and other related awareness days to promote help seeking behaviours (when needed).
This year Brisbane North PHN’s Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drug (MHAOD) team embraced the QMHW 2024 theme of Connect for Mental Health to host a full program of activities for all PHN staff.
From October 5 to 13, activities aligned with four sub-themes – Connect with Self, Connect with Community, Connect with Others and Connect with Nature – were coordinated at our Lutwyche offices. Using their dedicated activity passports, staff were encouraged to connect across teams in various ways – over virtual coffee catch ups, walks, through mindful colouring, meditation practices and by learning more about mental health literacy and stigma.
The pinnacle Connect with Others activity was the inaugural Baby Photo Guessing Competition where staff got to know each other in an entirely new (and light-hearted) way! Prizes were awarded for most correct guesses, choosing the correct twin and People’s Choice for cutest baby.
Each year QMHW encourages Queenslanders to come together through local events – we thank the MHAOD team for facilitating this important and poignant moment of connection for our staff, and those who participated.
