Supporting heart health across our region this Heart Health Awareness Week

07 May 2024

Every 30 minutes, an Australian loses their life to heart disease.

The first week of May marks Australia’s national Heart Health Awareness Week – a community campaign to encourage conversations with health professionals about heart health and taking positive steps to reduce risk factors for heart disease.

How to improve your heart health this Heart Health Awareness Week 2024

- Book a heart health check with your GP and prepare for your appointment by reading up about easy lifestyle improvements you can start making today – diet changes and increasing your fitness levels over time can minimise your risk of cardiovascular disease.
- Even if you have two or more risk factors, there are still changes you can make to reduce your chances of developing heart health problems. My Health for life is a free health coaching program you can access to take chronic disease management into your own hands and improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Our Primary Care Engagement team are committed to working with general practices in continuous quality improvement (CQI) to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease for people in our region through the promotion and support of healthy lifestyles and good heart health.

To do this, Brisbane North PHN is proud to collaborate with allied organisations like the Heart Foundation, who in turn facilitate walking groups across Australia to support more people to walk more often, for a healthy mind and body. Find a Heart Foundation walking group to build connections in your local community and walk together for heart health.
