Women's Health Week webinar showcases Brisbane North PHN's endometriosis and pelvic pain (EPP) clinics
16 September 2024To mark Women’s Health Week this September, Brisbane North PHN in partnership with our two endometriosis and pelvic pain (EPP) clinics, Neighbourhood Medical and Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS), hosted a webinar for local health professionals with an interest in women’s health specific to EPP.
Neighbourhood Medical and MATSICHS champion unique models of care, and experts from their teams shared with participants lessons and learnings encountered during their implementation.
Across these clinics, both First Nations and non-indigenous women and people assigned female at birth can access services that are culturally safe for them – presentations included a rapid literature review on the conditions and comparisons within indigenous and non-indigenous clinical contexts.
The model takes a multidisciplinary approach which includes allied health, and webinar participants also heard from a physiotherapist who delivers a pelvic pain program designed specifically for patients on the pilot.
Soon both clinics will introduce group psychology sessions as part of their multidisciplinary service offering, which will continue to be refined and added to until the pilot ends in June 2026.
This year’s Women’s Health Week theme celebrated the power of women’s choice and voice, a sentiment that is echoed in each clinic’s shared mission of providing a person-centred approach to care that supports each patient to “feel heard and understood.”
