Metro North Public Health Unit -

Applications close: 02 May, 2026

Metro North Public Health Unit (MNPHU) aims to prevent illness and disease and improve the health of the community. The MNHPU has a focus on protecting the health of the community from communicable disease and other illnesses, as well as promoting health and wellbeing. The role of Public Health is therefore complementary to health services whose focus is primarily on the health needs of an individual patient.

MNHPU has on-site specialists with expertise in many areas including communicable disease, immunisation, outbreak and incident management, mosquitoes and mosquito control, water quality, risk assessment and food safety standards.

We are currently seeking applications for fixed term temporary clinical nurse – various backfill opportunities until March 2027. The purpose of this role is to provide public health nursing services in communicable disease control and immunisation in accordance with National and Queensland Health guidelines including enhanced surveillance; investigation and management of notifiable conditions, non-notifiable diseases and communicable disease outbreaks; assessment, advice and management of vaccine management and immunisation issues for the Metro North Health Service (MNHHS).

Evidence of successful completion of an approved Immunisation Program Nurse program of study or evidence of enrolment or acceptance into such a course is required. All successful applicants who have completed an immunisation program nurse course must be granted a defined scope of clinical practice by the Metro North Health Nursing and Midwifery Credentialing and Defined Scope of Clinical Practice (SoCP) Committee.
