Additional COVID-19 vaccination clinic capacity

June 14, 2021

Second COVID 19 vaccine administered in Queensland

Queensland Health has expanded its COVID-19 vaccination rollout following a massive spike in demand for vaccinations for people aged 40 to 49, with aged and disability care workers a specific priority.

Eighteen (18) vaccination centres will deliver Pfizer vaccinations including three new dedicated community facilities at STARS (Herston), Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and Brighton Health Campus. A new clinic has also just opened at Doomben. Other existing facilities across most parts of the state will be open and new community sites will open in the coming weeks.

In Queensland, people in Priority Group 1a, 1b and people aged between 40 and 49 are eligible to make a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at a Queensland Health vaccination location. To register, visit the Queensland Health vaccination website.

Appointment availability can take a few weeks, but registration remains the best way to secure a vaccination appointment at a Queensland Health vaccination location. Walk-in appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are accepted at some Queensland Health clinics, depending on capacity, however vaccination cannot be guaranteed as clinics may:

  • only accept walk ins from high priority cohorts i.e. frontline workers, aged and disability care
  • only accept walk-in appointments at specific times or specific days
  • have no availability for walk-in appointments on the day, having reached capacity
  • not be accepting walk-in appointments at all.

People who have made a booking will always be given priority over people who do not have a booking.

For walk-in appointments, the clinics will determine the type of COVID-19 vaccine given based on current eligibility criteria, any requirement the person has to receive a specific type of vaccine and the available supply of vaccine at the site.

People aged 50 and over (who are not in Priority Group 1a or 1b) can make an appointment via the Vaccine Eligibility Checker to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at an approved General Practice (GP), GP–led respiratory clinic or Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Service.

Queensland Health’s Asset Library has been updated with additional content for general practice to access and use to assist with promotion of the COVID-19 vaccine.
