Last week marked the start of the annual Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) that runs from 10-18 October and shines a spotlight on individual and community mental health and wellbeing.

As part of QMHW, the PHN are proud to be sponsoring the Brisbane Mental Health Expo, now in its tenth year. This year, in response to COVID-19, the expo is taking place online and through pop-up events within the Greater Brisbane region.

The expo aims to reduce the stigma experienced by people with a lived experience, and increase mental health literacy amongst the wider population.

The PHN’s Deputy CEO, Paul Martin said the expo offers the community a great opportunity to find out about the range of mental health services available in Brisbane.

“It also raises the awareness of mental health and challenges stigma and discrimination in the community,” Mr Martin said.

“It has been a tough year for many and taking care of our own health and wellbeing has to be a priority,” he said.

While World Mental Health Day (10 October) has already passed, it is not too late to take part in the community events, activities and conversations taking place in our region.
